[Tower Image #799]
799 - 9/19/04 - 22:04
The last section coming down before the last section containing guy wires.
[Tower Image #800]
800 - 9/19/04 - 22:06
[Tower Image #801]
801 - 9/19/04 - 22:07
[Tower Image #802]
802 - 9/19/04 - 22:11
[Tower Image #803]
803 - 9/19/04 - 22:11
[Tower Image #804]
804 - 9/19/04 - 22:12
Almost done. Only a few sections left.
[Tower Image #805]
805 - 9/20/04 - 16:57
Only one guy wire left to remove.
[Tower Image #806]
806 - 9/20/04 - 19:48
[Tower Image #807]
807 - 9/20/04 - 19:48
[Tower Image #808]
808 - 9/20/04 - 21:30
There it is, the last section to be removed.
[Tower Image #809]
809 - 9/20/04 - 21:30
[Tower Image #810]
810 - 9/21/04 - 23:46
[Tower Image #811]
811 - 9/21/04 - 23:54
Twilight photo of the tower. Not exactly what I was looking for.
[Tower Image #812]
812 - 9/22/04 - 22:19
Taken about 1:45 before sunset with a polarizer. Facing east toward the B-C leg.
[Tower Image #813]
813 - 9/22/04 - 22:19
I need to use the better tripod, as the smaller one did not make it easy trying to get a perfectly vertical set of shots. Even though all of the images were shot at the same shutter speed and f-stop, you'll notice the difference in sky coloration. Even though there are still some lines attached to the tower, I wanted to get this scene while there is still daylight and leaves on the trees. I will try and get a shot with fall color.
[Tower Image #814]
814 - 9/25/04 - 15:58
It is cleanup time. They want to be all packed up and have the tower signed off sometime Monday.
[Tower Image #815]
815 - 9/25/04 - 15:59
The yard is getting cleaned up. You'll notice that the carpet that was on the ground underneath the hoist cables are now gone.
[Tower Image #816]
816 - 9/25/04 - 15:59
You'll also notice that the tool truck is now parked where the yellow "horse" used to be. That got packed up Friday.
[Tower Image #817]
817 - 9/25/04 - 16:00
[Tower Image #818]
818 - 9/25/04 - 16:05
A couple of shots of the old tower sections.
[Tower Image #819]
819 - 9/25/04 - 16:06
[Tower Image #820]
820 - 9/25/04 - 16:06
The very bottom section of the old tower is being left behind because of all the cable that go through it.
[Tower Image #821]
821 - 9/25/04 - 16:07
Another shot, from a different angle, of the old tower sections.
[Tower Image #822]
Notice a bunch of the old guy wire as well.
[Tower Image #823]
823 - 9/25/04 - 16:08
While looking at the old sections, I noticed the writing on the top of the top section.
[Tower Image #824]
824 - 9/25/04 - 16:09
I asked him when he did it and he said it was when he broke all of the bolts loose before they moved the antenna from the old tower to the new. Dave also mentioned that the new tower has names all over it. :-) There is even other writing, that I won't repeat here. :-)
[Tower Image #825]
825 - 9/25/04 - 16:23
A view of the completed tower, facing west toward the A leg. All of the hoist cables and trolley ropes have been removed. The hoist cable is lowered with a trolley rope. The trolley rope can't be lowered. They went way out into the baseball field (between legs A and B), tensioned the rope real tight and then cut it. The rope then "shoots" toward the ground and coils up relatively nice. The pulley is then removed and carried down the tower. Dave said that it took him about a half hour to climb down the tower.
[Tower Image #826]
826 - 9/25/04 - 19:19
Putting the Cat back together.
[Tower Image #827]
827 - 9/25/04 - 19:57
[Tower Image #828]
828 - 9/25/04 - 20:12
Dave is testing it to make sure that everything is working properly.
[Tower Image #829]
829 - 9/25/04 - 20:20
It was. Brax used the Cat to do dumpster crushing, as more junk needed to go in it.
[Tower Image #830]
830 - 9/25/04 - 20:31
One of the flatbeds is getting the last of its stuff put on it.
[Tower Image #831]
831 - 9/25/04 - 20:35
[Tower Image #832]
832 - 9/25/04 - 20:38
You know for sure that it is time to go when the carpet gets rolled up and put in the trash.
[Tower Image #833]
833 - 9/25/04 - 20:40
With the trash placed on the truck, and the carpet and old wooden shelf attached behind, ...
[Tower Image #834]
834 - 9/25/04 - 20:41
... it is hauled off to the dumpster.
[Tower Image #835]
835 - 9/25/04 - 20:43
Remember many photos ago I mentioned that the generator wasn't very well protected? Well, as you can see, they've erected an ice shield over it. (They being the people working on the building, not the tower crew.)
[Tower Image #836]
836 - 9/25/04 - 20:43
The truck is now at the dumpster and the junk is being thrown in.
[Tower Image #837]
837 - 9/25/04 - 20:44
Except that the buckets are being crushed first, in order to take up less space.
[Tower Image #838]
838 - 9/25/04 - 20:44
[Tower Image #839]
839 - 9/25/04 - 20:45
[Tower Image #840]
840 - 9/25/04 - 20:46
[Tower Image #841]
841 - 9/25/04 - 20:51
The crushed wooden shelf, at least what is left of it, is being placed in the scooper for transfer to the dumpster.
[Tower Image #842]
842 - 9/26/04 - 15:30
The trailer is all packed up and ready to go.
[Tower Image #843]
843 - 9/26/04 - 15:30
Another trailer, all ready to go and hitched to Brax's truck.
[Tower Image #844]
844 - 9/26/04 - 15:30
Notice anything about the area covered in this photo? Yep, it was the area used to assemble the tower sections. The concrete slabs used to hold the sections were also removed.
[Tower Image #845]
845 - 9/26/04 - 15:31
Getting the truck ready to haul the trailer that can be seen in the background. The trailer will be used to haul the Cat tractor.
[Tower Image #846]
846 - 9/26/04 - 15:40
[Tower Image #847]
847 - 9/26/04 - 15:48
[Tower Image #848]
848 - 9/26/04 - 15:56
Checking the tire pressure on all the trailers and adding air where needed.
[Tower Image #849]
849 - 9/26/04 - 16:51
Building a dirt ramp.
[Tower Image #850]
850 - 9/26/04 - 17:04
So that the tractor can be driven ...
[Tower Image #851]
851 - 9/26/04 - 17:04
... onto the trailer.
[Tower Image #852]
852 - 9/26/04 - 21:38
There it is, the completed tower, from the far end of the parking lot across the street.
[Tower Image #853]
853 - 9/26/04 - 22:11
Beauty shot of the tower taken from further away.
[Tower Image #854]
854 - 9/26/04 - 22:12
While the exposure is not right, I did notice that by shear luck, the shot captured the flash tubes on the tower.
[Tower Image #855]
855 - 9/26/04 - 22:17
[Tower Image #856]
856 - 9/26/04 - 22:20
Beauty shot with all of the guy wires visible.
